How do people cooperate in shared living spaces?
Drop Lamp was created from an exploration of how people with different lifestyles cooperate in shared living situations. Student dormitories are a quintessential example of shared living spaces and the Drop Lamp was inspired by the common student need for portable, localized lighting. The Drop Lamp gives off just enough light for one student to use in dim conditions--perfect for studying in dark dorm lounges or cramming through the night without disturbing sleeping roommates.
Electronics Housing
The threaded core has pockets designed to snugly hold the electrical components in this lamp. This prevents any electrical components from coming loose, and also helps keep all the LED lights oriented so all of the light shines toward the shell of the lamp. The electronic core can easily be upgraded with micro-controllers, or other LED options
Final Assembly
The threaded ring and electronics housing fit together snugly, and a small divot in the base provides an easy finger grip to unscrew the two parts and take the lamp apart again. As shown in the photo, the on/off rocker switch is exposed at the bottom: out of sight, but still easily accessible. The charging port is also at the bottom for easy recharging with a USB-mini USB cable.
The Drop Lamp provides a bright glow that is especially good for reading, writing, or any other task that has requires a small but well-lit working area.
The Drop Lamp is great for providing ambient light. It is bright enough to illuminate any dark room with a soft warm glow. When full, the rechargeable battery will give about 11 hours of continuous light.
When the Drop Lamp is not being used, the fluid form and solid white color make it easy to fit into almost any workplace or living space without adding visual clutter.
